Hello.  My name is Renee Polkinghorne and I am a Birth Doula. I am a mother of four children and I have been married to my best friend for the past 20 years. My oldest daughter (19 years old) is a sophomore in college at the University of Santa Barbara.  I have twin boys (17 years old) that will be attending their Freshmen year at the University of Bakersfield and my youngest son (12 years old) is entering the 8th grade.  I have participated in all of our family and close friends births (13 neices and nephews) so I have had a great deal of experience over the past 19 years.  I found myself wanting a career in the childbirth arena because I find the birth process to be just an amazing miracle. I want each mom I work with to come back with that same feeling about their own birth.  Every birth I have witnessed has been incredible and I LOVE what I do.

 As your birth doula, my main objective is to provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to you and your partner before, during and just after childbirth as well as provide emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.  I will stay with you during your entire labor while providing emotional support, physical comfort measures, and an objective viewpoint, as well as help you get the information you will need to make informed decisions regarding your birth.  I will not take the place of your labor partner, should you have one, but will ensure your partner's participation at their comfort level. I will assist you in creating a birth plan that you are comfortable with and ensure your childbirth will be a wonderful experience that you will remember all your life.
